Gift 1: Create Jesus Messiah Picture Books for Children in Suriname and Togo

You can help reach children with the gospel through your gift to translate, print, and distribute the Jesus Messiah picture book in minority languages. Wycliffe will work together with local schools, churches, and other organizations to achieve an effective distribution of these colorful books that introduce boys and girls to Jesus. A total of 20,000 books will be distributed to children in Suriname alone! You can underwrite the cost of a number of these picture books with even a modest gift, so please help us put them into the hands of children who need to know that Jesus loves them.

Gift amount: $30 for 10 books or $90 for 30 books

Gift 2: Distribute Audio Scriptures to the Fulani People of Nigeria

The Nigerian Fulani is one of the largest unreached people groups in Africa. Help give them God’s Word through an audio Bible on MegaVoice Players (MVPs). The unit is about the size of a cassette player—and much more durable than CDs or cassettes. One player can store up to 160 hours of audio material, including the entire Bible. With these simple devices, unreached people can hear the gospel in their own language and learn to study the Bible without having to know how to read. Your gift will provide for the purchase of the MVPs as well as the recording and distribution of Scriptures on cassette and video, particularly through the Genesis video, the Acts video, and The JESUS Film.

Gift amount: $40 for 1 player or $160 for 4 players

Gift 3: Give the Kurdish People Access to Scripture in Their Own Languages

Your support of Wycliffe’s work among the Kurdish people of West Asia will help provide Scripture translation and a greater understanding of God’s Word. In the near future, we plan to conduct language development and Bible-translation activities in the various Kurdish languages and dialects. The short-term goals include training Kurdish nationals, working with partner organizations, and helping the various projects become self-sustaining—all with the goal of accelerating the pace of Scripture translation into the Kurdish languages.

Gift amount: $250 toward translation

Gift 4: Provide Computers and Related Equipment for African Bible Translators

The use of computers and specialized software has greatly accelerated the speed and accuracy of Bible translation in places like Africa by helping translators become more efficient in their work. There is a need for more computers, printers, and related equipment for Bible translation teams working in African language communities that still do not have God’s Word in their mother tongue. Your gift toward purchasing these tools will help shine the light of Christ to people across Africa who need to know of His love.

Gift amount: $1,500 for one laptop, equipment, and software

Gift 5: Help a Translator Reach Remote Peoples with a Motorbike

One great challenge for national Bible translators in parts of Africa is the remoteness of the people who need the Scriptures in their language. In the Central African Republic, for example, the lack of adequate roads makes it difficult for translators to reach the villages of the Lutos people by conventional travel means. But a small motorbike can go on and off the road to carry these workers to the people they are serving. Your gift to help purchase these motor bikes for Bible translators will help shine the light of God’s Word in places that might otherwise go unreached.

Gift amount: $1,600 for a motorbike or $40 for a month’s use (based on average use and mileage)

Gift 6: Print the New Testament for Three Language Groups

Your contribution to Wycliffe will help make the Scriptures available to the Merey people of Cameroon, the Cishingini people of Nigeria, and the Ulane people of Indonesia by printing the New Testament for these language communities. The Merey illustrate the challenges involved in these projects. They live apart from other groups, and translating the Bible into their language has been difficult. But after years of faithful work, we are ready to go to press with these editions of the New Testament. Funding is crucial to this final printing stage, so your gift is needed for this critical sowing and reaping.

Gift amount: $27 to provide 3 New Testaments

Gift 7: Train Mother-Tongue Translators in Ghana

Wycliffe can now provide training and consultant services to Ghanaian translators working in 23 languages. This training is given for both New Testament and Old Testament translators in introductory and background workshops, one-book workshops, and courses in the use of computer programs used in translation. Translation consultants give further training to specific language projects in checking sessions. We anticipate giving further training in translation to mother-tongue translators in 20 languages during these workshops. Your gift to this work will be an important investment in accelerating the pace of translation by training Ghanaian mother-tongue translators.

Gift amount: $12,910 per workshop or $516 per participant

Gift 8: Support Translation and Literacy among the Nzakara People in the Central African Republic

The Nzakaras need the Word of God in their own language. The Christians among them also need to deepen their relationship with God and avoid slipping into syncretistic practices. The main goal of the Nzakara translation team is to make progress in translating the New Testament by finishing the Gospel of Luke and The JESUS Film*, along with work on Matthew, Romans, Galatians, Philippians, 1 and 2 Timothy, Titus, 1¬–3 John, and Jude. Your gift will help keep this project moving forward.

*Campus Crusade for Christ International and Wycliffe Bible Translators partner together to bring The JESUS Film in the heart languages of people all over the world.

Gift amount: $100 to support a mother-tongue translator for one month

Gift 9: Transform the Lives of the Lutos People in the Central African Republic

This project will provide Scriptures in the heart language of the Lutos, a marginalized people in the Central African Republic. There is a great need for vision-building among the churches and other partners and for strengthening the translation team through further training and recruiting other translators. With your support, we can make an eternal impact in the lives of many among this people group.

Gift amount: $500 to help provide Scriptures for the Lutos people

Gift 10: Provide the New Testament for the Fulani People

“Some people we meet have never heard the gospel, though they sometimes have heard of ‘prophet Jesus.’” This comment about the Fulani people of Western Niger comes from a member of the team that is translating God’s Word into Fulfulde, the mother tongue of about 500,000 Fulanis. Your contribution to Wycliffe will help fund this translation project. There are only about 200 believers (.04% of the population) scattered in Western Niger, with sometimes only one or two Christians in the same area! The Fulanis live in great spiritual darkness; your gift will help shine Christ’s light into their hearts and minds.

Gift amount: $88,700 to complete or $1,500 toward completion

Gift 11: Give People in Indonesia Safe Drinking Water as a Demonstration of God’s Love

In places like Indonesia, it is important to lay a foundation for future work by ministering to the people’s physical needs. The region that is the focus of this project includes people in poverty-stricken villages who do not have access to safe drinking water—which can lead to serious diseases. We want to give six Indonesian villages a source of clean water by refurbishing a dam and the pipes that bring water from the dam to the villages. We need your support to complete this vital project that will improve lives and be a powerful demonstration of God’s love.

Gift amount: $175 to help refurbish the dam and pipes

Gift 12: Provide Laptop Computers for Russian Translators

A total of $10,000 is needed to equip seven newly trained Bible translators from Russia with the laptop computers they need for their work. These translators will work in language communities in Europe and Asia, bringing the light of God’s Word and the message of the gospel to people who need to know of God’s love for them. Your gift to help purchase these computers will give these translators a vital tool to speed the pace and accuracy of their work. We pray you will help with this project—perhaps even underwrite the cost of one or more computers.

Gift amount: $1,400 per computer or $10,000 for 7 computers

Gift 13: Provide Audio Scripture Players for Papa New Guinea

A mission leader said recently, “Wycliffe is now aiming to reach, more than ever before, the many people in the Pacific region for whom reading is not part of their daily lives.” Making Scripture available in aduio is a growing and successful method of helping people who are primarily oral learners to benefit from Bible translation. The goal is to increase use of the Scriptures already translated by making them accessible in media other than print. Reading is not a cultural norm or means of obtaining information for many Pacific cultures. We hope that personal access to oral Scriptures will increase the motivation to study and use printed Scriptures. Your gift will supply more of these valuable Scripture-learning tools.

Gift amount: $40 for each oral Scripture player

Gift 14: Provide the Bible for the Ezaa People in Nigeria

The entire Bible will soon be available to the Ezaa people of Nigeria, and there is great excitement among them to have a copy of God’s Word! The Ezaa are mainly peasant farmers, known for their hospitality and welcoming of strangers. This provides opportunity to share with them the love of Christ and His Word. The churches in this region are united in their desire to have the Bible in a language the people can understand. The Bible will be used for evangelism, discipleship, and church growth. Your gift will help the Ezaa people read the wonderful message of Christ in their mother tongue. Please consider how God would have you share in this effort.

Gift amount: $86,065 total or $250 for 15 Bibles

Gift 15: Print the Gospel of Luke in 6 Languages

Rev. Kipukapuka, a pastor in the Kinga area of Tanzania, says people are coming to know the Lord Jesus when they sing and hear preaching in their heart language. He looks forward to many more people becoming Christians when they are finally able to hear the Word of God speaking directly to them in their mother tongue. His hope will soon be realized when the Kinga Gospel of Luke is printed, one of 6 such translations of Luke ready to be printed in Africa and parts of Asia. Your gift will help provide this portion of Scripture to many who need to know that God sent Jesus to be their Savior.

Gift amount: $95 for 25 Scripture portions or $190 for 50 Scripture portions

Gift 16: Record Scripture Readings for the People of Bougainville

Wycliffe is supporting a project called Bougainville Advance for people in this region of Papua New Guinea. One aspect of this important project involves the recording and editing of Scripture-reading programs that a local radio station airs three times a week. These vernacular Scripture programs have been well received by the community, and we want to continue and grow this ministry. The cost of producing a program is modest, so we hope you will provide for as many of these recordings as you are able. We also need to train more sound engineers so the radio ministry can grow to meet the demand—which is evidence of radio’s unique ability to reach people right where they are.

Gift amount: $75 to record one Scripture reading

Gift 17: Promote Scripture Use in Four Language Communities in South Asia

Training the people in a language community to use their translated Scriptures effectively is a vital part of the Bible-translation process. This program in a remote mountainous area of South Asia will help church leaders to use the translated Scriptures in their ministries in several languages, including Sapar, Rose, Brand, and Bagh. These language groups, which number approximately 150,000 people, have received their New Testaments. The teams of mother-tongue translators are working on distribution and Scripture-use programs. A valuable foundation for the work of Christ has been laid in these language communities, and significant impact has been made. Please help Wycliffe continue this project through your generous contribution.

Gift amount: $200 toward Scripture use materials

Gift 18: Contribute to the Support of Dedicated Wycliffe Missionaries

The need to raise support is a constant reality for Wycliffe missionaries. This has become even more difficult in these economically challenging times. A number of our missionaries are currently underfunded, which makes it difficult for them to give their undistracted attention to the ministries to which God has called them. Your gift to the Missionary Support Fund will help relieve a huge financial burden and allow these dedicated servants of the Lord to give their full energies to making God’s Word available to Bibleless peoples.

Gift amount: $100 to help support one missionary

Gift 19: Where Needed Most

Your gift of any amount would be a blessing and will help move the work of these projects forward.

A Message from the President

Bob Creson I am happy to present you with the 2011–2012 Wycliffe Bible Translators Gift Catalog. You will find 18 opportunities to be involved in sharing the Good News this Christmas— the Good News of the birth of Jesus Christ.

That wonderful message still needs to reach many people in Africa, Asia, the Pacific, and Latin America who, much like the people of Bethlehem on that first Christmas night, are still waiting to hear the Good News message. What an incredible privilege God has given us to bring them the message of salvation in the language that speaks to their hearts!

Thank you for giving the gift of God’s Word this Christmas,
